Re: Book mentioned on this page — History of the Second World War, 1951
[edit]This book appears to have been influencial in Russia (for example [1]) but less so in the West (?). This is interesting. Could someone provide further information? Perhaps a new page should be made about the book — a British book of the same title already has a page, so this might help maintain the balance of Wikipedia (?)
The Oxford University library[2] has the book as: Author Tippelskirch, Kurt von. Title Geschichte des Zweiten Weltkriegs / Kurt von Tippelskirch. Publisher Bonn, Athenäum-Verlag, 1951. Description xiv, 731 p. ports., maps (part fold., in pocket) 23 cm. Notes Bibliography: p. [710]-711. Subjects World War, 1939-1945.

I have edited the clear error that (his son) Adolf-Hilmar was a lt-col when receiving a Knights-cross. Obviously the evident mistake between "oberleutnant" (1st lieutenant) and "oberstleutnant" (lt-col).

Site of surrender
[edit]I don't have the book in hand, but a collection of stories about World War Two said that Gen. von Tippelskirch surrendered to Gen. James Gavin not merely "in the Ludwigslust area" but in Ludwigslust, in the mansion that had been von Tippelskirch's home--he came from a wealthy family--and that he asked, and was permitted, to spend that night in the old place before going off to a POW camp.
